evening post….

Posted by in Uncategorized

i’m sitting on our deck in the cool of the evening as it’s been in the mid 80s this week. it’s my kind of weather. it’s probably mid-70s now as the time draws close to 8:30. the sun hasn’t officially set yet and i’m accompanied by my orange tabby cat kayle, several dive-bombing hummingbirds and no doubt, several biting insects that i won’t notice until i’m scratching arms and legs later tonight. the animals are in the low pasture now grazing as they spent most of the heat of the…read more

weekend words: reservations.

Posted by in Uncategorized

it was life imitating art last week. at our hotel check in, i felt like elaine, standing next to my jerry in this video. we had made our room reservations for the convention about 3 weeks prior to the convention without trouble. i specified what we wanted and the kind gentleman on the other end of the phone assured me that a non-smoking, king bed room, poolside, was available. he gave me our reservation number and i printed our reservation information to take with us. just in case. those confirmation…read more

pennsylvania’s capitol

Posted by in Uncategorized

After we left the convention hall on Saturday, we decided to head over to see the state capitol building. We found a cute Irish pub for lunch right “under” the capitol and then walked the grounds to the front of the building. The following are pictures of plaques that frame the front door. I found the captions of the pictures interesting (mouse over photoo for caption under picture). And the circular photo is the inside of the dome. It’s a beautiful building and it oozes “beginnings” and history. The words…read more

homeschool convention: for the joy of learning!

Posted by in family, family fun, Uncategorized

i learned one thing about blogging software last week: don’t ever put something in your blog post title that will encourage spyware comments. i’ve had to trash and “spam-kill” about 25 comments on my previous post. coments from spammers who are diabetic, looking for better eating habits, etc. ugh! and here i thought i was actually generating some valuable discussion about eating whole grains! (i have more recipes to post – really yummy bread recipes!) but now onto last week’s PA homeschool convention update… for the past three mother’s day…read more

i really do have a lot to post about…

Posted by in Uncategorized

…but because of that, i have no time to sit down and write a well-thought-out post! i have much to say regarding new lambs, pasture management, chickens in our freezer (or the ones we ordered for our future freezer), spinning wool from our own sheep, HOMESCHOOL CONVENTION, new curriculum, wrapping up this school year, and home management. whew!  that’s a lot. eventually, i will be back to update you on all of it. for now…i must remove bread from the oven, begin dinner preparation (yes, it’s 3:00, but we have…read more

whole grain recipes

Posted by in food, health, Uncategorized

For a while, I’ve had some “cranky mid-section” issues a long with several-day-long headaches and I thought it was about time to cut out some foods that I figured were some of the bad culprits: white sugar and white, processed flours.  For a few weeks, Kenny and I cut out all carbs from our diet, following Phase 1 of South Beach Diet. Yes, it’s a “fad diet”….but I needed some sort of guidance in beginning this journey into a new way of eating and preparing our food. Phase 1 of the…read more

weekend words

Posted by in Uncategorized

when i was in college, my favorite way to spend a weekend morning was with lots of friends eating pancakes, oatmeal, coffee, veggie hash and talking. MUCH talking. right now, our saturdays are rushed to get out to the soccer fields during the fall and spring. fortunately, they’re more lazy on winter and summer mornings. but on mornings that are slower, savored, and sanctified, i love to feed a hearty breakfast (pancakes, bacon, hot cereal and hearty toast) and always love a good soundtrack playing softly to the loud rumblings…read more
