wow, y'all. you have totally surprised me. because while i was holding my nose shut trying to finish my 8 oz. of nastiness yesterday, i was certain (certain!) that everyone in the world hated the stuff as much as I did. how could anyone drink it without being forced to? i mean, my husband likes it, but since love is blind, i've overlooked that fact about him.

but you guys? come on...you HAVE to be kidding. kenny was pretty sure there were other people out there who liked it -- how else could they still be selling it in every grocery store across the country? but i was so certain he was wrong.

and i'm always right. it's probably the single worst trait that kenny doesn't like about me. (well, that and the angry-pillow-in-his-face when i have to get up and feed the babies when they wake during the night.)

but i guess you proved me wrong. for the very first time in the history of my short life, i was wrong.

it was, however, interesting getting your opinion on something. so interesting, in fact, that i'm going to poll you (my blog readers) every once in a while. so stay tuned for the next "poll" and weigh in with your opinion.

back to the superbowl. it's rather boring this year - i'm not hanging on each play by play. i am thinking of my chicago friends tonight, as they are probably sitting on pins and needles right now (still pulling for you, Bears fans!) and wow. Prince can still rock "Purple Rain."

I think the stuff is pretty nasty too. the smell of it makes me want to vomit.

I had an interesting conversation with my son about Prince & Purple Rain during the performance....is that a man or a woman...what is Purple Rain....why is that guitar shaped so funny...but Prince did rock it. And no lip synching, so big points for Prince.

I'm just as shocked as you, Liz. I thought only the nursing home set choked that stuff down regularly! :-p
Prince: no lip synching was sooo key and appreciated!

Okay, I resent that "nursing home set" remark. :) But it's not going to stop me from admitting I like V8. My preferred juice of that sort is Campbell's Organic Tomato Juice, but I do like V8. They are all too salty -- and getting the low sodium variety doesn't help, because it just substitutes one salt for another -- but I still like them. Here's am easy recipe I really like: make tomato soup with one can of blah condensed soup, one can of tomato juice or V8, and some hot sauce (Tabasco or whatever your favorite is). Yum!

I started drinking V8 in second grade -- the tiny can with the foil tab you pull off...
Liz bought the low-sodium, and halfway through my glass I had to salt it! I must admit feeling a little silly "salting" my juice...
Audrey, my favorite bloody mary ingredient: horseradish. Just a half-teaspoon... Mmmm.

So maybe love of V8, like so many other things, is rooted in childhood. I also started drinking V8 out of those tiny steel cans with the foil tabs.

And the low sodium version just tastes kind of blah. You don't know that have consumed V8 unless you are more thirsty after finishing your glass than you were before!

You know, I drank the low-sodium stuff and I needed a Huge glass of water after it. I think the tomato should be reclassified as a vegetable and not a fruit. It's so much more like drinking veggie juice and nothing like fruit juice.

If you don't like it, I don't think you're ever going to. I haven't found too many people that have "learned to love" V8. It's something I've always loved. For what it's worth, the rest of my family (spouse and kids) hate it.

Jack - I think Kenny and I had the exact same conversation during the Prince halftime show that you and your son did. Although we know he's a man...we also commented on his guitar, and what is purple rain? :)

who is gladly admitting that she is over 60 - disliked Prince a whole lot but loved Billy Joel. OK, I know his voice is not what it once was, but he is so cool and sings the anthem the way it is supposed to be sung, not all the modulations that the current crowd usually butchers it with!!
...and I love V8
new product on the market is a juice with V* and other fruits added - have not yet tried it

I missed BIlly Joel since the tv is generally off until the boys are in bed. But I'm sure I would have loved seeing him, too!
And I've tried V8 Splash. It's *ok.* :)

Where I think Kenny is a great guy... his like of V8 is not one I can personally support. I could never bring myself to put a glass of it to my lips... gag reflex!

FYI - Purple is Prince's favorite color. It is a color associated with royalty. The guitar is shaped that way because it is his trademarked logo.
