So Kenny and I both have some Irish blood in us. St. Patrick's Day was never a huge deal but it was still always an occassion to drink a lot of fun green beer and pretend you're really really Irish.
A few years ago, we celebrated with a lot of friends at house a few blocks away that belonged to dear friends of ours, Audrey and Tom, who recently moved to Washington state. Way far away. This St. Patty's day party consisted of much Irish food and lots of very very green beer because Kenny added way too much coloring. It was a festive night. The house is now emtpy as they just moved a few weeks ago, and it's not sold yet. Kenny is "in charge" of making sure the house is in order, so we stop by a few times every few weeks to check things out. It's very empty. Our stag and doe party was in this same house. A seventies party that Kenny and I both attended before we started dating was in this same house. Now it is just a building with empty rooms. And a lot of party history.
Today, I made a big pot of "Beef, Beer, and Vegetable Stew" made with a homebrew that Kenny and our friend Greg made together a few weeks before Christmas. The beer is called "Wee Heavy" and is probably the strongest beer I've ever tasted...and I love it. It made for a really nice stew. I also made an Irish Whiskey cake with some cheap Irish whiskey that Kenny bought yesterday....we'll see how that tastes.
I made a mini cake without the whiskey so Rowan could join us in the St. Patty's festivities. But he's in bed already and already ate his. We cut it in half and put it on an Elmo plate and all sat in the living room while Kenny played a few little jigs on his Irish tin whistle. I clapped while Rowan laughed and Sawyer sat (he's sitting up now! on his own!) and looked at me like I had two heads.
And now we're about to enjoy our Irish Whiskey cake with a splash of Baileys. On ice for me. Straight up for Kenny.
